VSPARTICLE was admitted to the Virtual Accelerator of Make Next Platform (MNP) on 30 September 2022 after a successful Challenge.
VSPARTICLE (VSP) was founded in 2014 as a spinoff of Delft University of Technology (YES!Delft) by Professor Andreas Schmidt-Ott (Nanoparticle Technology; Advisor), Aaike van Vugt (CEO) and Tobias Pfeiffer (CTO). The company has developed a unique spark ablation tool which generates nanoparticles in a highly controlled manner. Spark ablation is an exciting technology for material scientists who are looking to create new combinations of materials (alloys) or to improve the behaviour of bulk materials like gold and Iridium (Ir) by bringing them on nanoscale. In 2023 VSP will introduce its flagship product the VSPARTICLE Nanoprinter (VSP-P1). This new product unlocks a new material paradigm by enabling customers to print nanoparticles at the push of a button. The tool can potentially be used for many applications in lots of markets.
VSPARTICLE has already sold circa 40 system globally in the R&D market. While the VSP-P1 is being commercially introduced in the R&D market, VSP is working on the next generation nanoparticle printers for industry. VSP is currently active in the industrial market of next generation gas sensors and Catalyst Coated Membranes (CCMs). CCMs are essential to produce green hydrogen. In both markets VSP’s technology simplifies the production process from 7 steps today (wet-chemical-process) to just one step (non-chemical-dry-process). VSP claims an acceleration in the development of next generation products by at least ten times.
The First Opinion of Stichting TechnologyRating, MNP’s internal rating agency, was positive. VSP’s spark ablation tool can be considered a breakthrough technology. This technology will bring a paradigm shift by changing the currently wet chemical process to produce CCMs into a dry process.
VSP fulfils all admission criteria for MNP’s Virtual Accelerator. The revenue criterium of M€ 50 is within reach on the medium-term.
CEO Aaike van der Vugt on the admission:
“It took us 8 years to develop this brand-new technology from the ground up. Now, the technology is ready to be introduced into the R&D and industry market. VSPARTICLE management is very delighted to join the Make Next Platform, because with the support of this unique network we can scale our business much faster.”
Remko de Lange (Corporate Development, Vanderlande) and Marco Wieland (Fellow, ASML) are coaches for VSP.
